Performance Load™
Your knowledge can still be there. Your experience can still be there. Your ability can still be there.
And accessing them can sometimes require more effort.
Performance Load™ is a framework for understanding the total internal demand you are managing when you need to perform.
It looks at the conditions surrounding performance and helps explain why the same person, with the same ability, may not always have the same access to what they know and can do.
You haven’t suddenly become less capable. The conditions you’re performing within may have changed.
At any given time, there are demands on your attention, emotions and internal state.
Some are obvious. Others may barely register because you’ve become accustomed to managing them.
Performance Load™ gives us a way to look at those demands together and consider how they may be influencing the effort required to think clearly, recover well and perform reliably.
It isn’t a diagnosis. It is a framework for understanding what may be happening around your performance.
Cognitive demand includes the volume and complexity of information, decisions, competing priorities and unresolved thinking requiring your attention.
You may still be making good decisions and doing good work while noticing that it takes more effort to get there. The question isn’t simply whether you can think clearly. It’s how much of your available capacity is already being used before the next demand arrives.
Responsibility has an emotional component.
Difficult conversations, uncertainty, expectations, relationships, disappointment, anticipation and events outside work or sport can all require internal resources even when you’re functioning well. Emotional weight considers that part of the performance environment and how much internal attention it may be requiring.
How activated, settled or recovered you are can influence how you experience and respond to demand.
You may notice it in how easily you settle after a difficult moment, how quickly you react, how well you sleep or how readily you can shift from a heightened state into recovery. Nervous System State gives us another part of the picture when we’re considering the conditions you’re asking yourself to perform within.
Performance Load can shift even when your role, sport or responsibilities haven’t.
A demanding period at work may coincide with disrupted sleep. Competition may arrive alongside something difficult happening away from your sport. Several decisions may need your attention at the same time. A situation that is usually manageable may require more from you because of everything else happening around it.
Looking at any one factor alone can miss what the combination is asking of you.
Performance Load gives us a way to see the broader picture.
Performance Load™ gives us context. It can help us understand what you’re experiencing, where demands may be showing up and why something that usually comes easily may currently require more effort.
The work of Calibrated State goes further.
Through hypnosis, we work with the subconscious responses, patterns and behaviours you want to change, with the goal of making the response you want easier to access.
Performance Load helps us understand the conditions. Hypnosis gives us a way to work with the response.
The Performance Load Compass™ is an assessment tool that gives us a broader view of your current experience across Capacity, Recovery, Clarity and Presence.
It provides a starting point and, when used again over time, helps us see what is changing.
The Compass doesn’t diagnose a condition or tell us what you are capable of. It gives us another way to understand the conditions you’re currently working within.
Explore the Performance Load CompassYou don’t need to understand your Performance Load before beginning the conversation.
We start with what’s happening for you, what you would like to be different and how you would like to respond instead.
